  32. I have an INDUS GT-1000 external 5.25" drive, and my 1040STe hates it.
  33. The booting software that came with the drive won't work on the STe.
  34. And Future Systems (the makers of the drive) knew nothing about it.
  35. They were nice enough to send me another program that they thought might
  36. help, but no...

  38. Recently my drive was giving me a NEW problem! (besides the fact that if
  39. the GT-1000 is connected and off, the internal drive corrupts disks when
  40. it trys to write to them)..
  41. When I try to look at the external disk, it wants me to insert disk B into
  42. drive A, as if the external drive wasn't even there!! BUT, to make things
  43. weirder, PC-DITTO accesses it fine!!
  44. I tried it on a friend's MEGA2, and had the problem the first time, rebooted
  45. and didn't have the problem since... On my computer either (but I haven't
  46. tried it many times...)

  61. Alas, I attend a True Blue university, so I'm forced to downgrade

  107. One thing to check, if you've assembled the drive yourself, is to see if
  108. the Adaptec controller card is sitting too close to the drive's own
  109. controller electronics.  I had a variation of your problem which went like
  110. this:
  111.  
  112. Everything opened up and laid on the table--drive, controller, BMS board;
  113. in this configuration, everything was seperated, and the drive would format
  114. and read/write just fine.
  115.  
  116. Everything boxed up in the case, Adaptec board mounted to bottom of drive,
  117. next to drive electronics:  Can't format drive, too many bad sectors.
  118. (So how come they put mounting holes for a controller on the bottom of the
  119. drive then???)
  120.  
  121. Cobble up a mounting bracket, move Adaptec to top of drive.  Now the drive
  122. controller cable (34 pin) and drive data cable (20 pin) are coming up the
  123. back of the drive and over onto the Adaptec;  they are no longer running
  124. next to the drive electronics.  Result: Can format drive, and use it, but
  125. get intermittent read/write errors, (often filenames 'change' with one
  126. or two characters becoming garbage).

  128. Ok, now I'm getting pissed.  Get out the aluminum foil and the soldering
  129. iron.  Make a sandwich of cardboard and aluminum foil (carboard outside)
  130. and put one between adaptec and drive.  Do the same thing for the back of
  131. the drive, so that the drive control and data cables are outside of the
  132. sandwich, and the back of the drive is on the inside.  Do the same
  133. for the bottom of the drive.  Enclose my SCSI<->ASCI board in another
  134. couple of these sandwiches.  Run ground wires from the aluminum to the
  135. ground on the various boards.

  137. Everything works fine now.  Shees!

  139. Moral:  You may need shielding, lots of it.

  173. Adaptec sells a SCSI to Ethernet board.
  174. Installed, it cost $500-$1000 per node; so not much work has been done
  175. in the Atari world to support it with software.

  177. Modern SCSI interfaces for the Atari, such as the BMS-200 can handle chaining
  178. these boards along with the Disk Drive interfaces.

  217. need of a program to redirect PostScript printer output from TimeWorks
  218. Desktop Publisher to a file.  Does anyone have a program to do this?

  244. There is a program called BARREL that will do this.  I think it can be ftp'd
  245. from terminator.cc.umich.edu  ( 35.1.33.8 ).  The name of the file is called
  246. appropriately, barrel.arc.

  257. like to do is to change some of the key bindings in gulam/ue.  I've tried
  258. the kb command, but I must be doing something wrong.
  259. I tried "kb -r 07f 1d" to change the function of the delete key from
  260. ~H to ~D in the regular buffer (also tried -g -m for gulam and mini buffers
  261. with no luck).  What am I doing wrong?  (also, if you don't specify -r -g
  262. or -m, will kb change the defs for all three buffers?)
  263.   Anybody know what's wrong?
